Origin Green
Origin Green is the Sustainability Charter developed by Bord Bia for Irish food and drink
manufacturers. The Origin Green charter underpins Bord Bia’s strategy in the Irish food &
drinks industry. It is a programme that supports Irish food and drink producers to operate in
a more sustainable manner. When you plan for this programme to be implemented upfront
in your business, it can help generate signiicant cost savings in your equipment choices,
process eiciencies and waste disposal activities. It works across the entire supply chain from
farm to manufacturing. It is the only sustainability programme in the world operating on a
national scale in the food and drinks sector.

At manufacturing level, food and drinks companies sign up to the sustainability charter which
provides the framework to develop target driven and independently veriied sustainability
plans. Long-term and robust targets are established by each company across three key areas
such as raw material sourcing, manufacturing processes and social sustainability.

Companies’ plans are veriied ‘Origin Green’ by a third party company- SGS. Origin Green
companies report annually on their progress against each of their respective targets At farm
level, Bord Bia’s Quality Assurance schemes are incorporating sustainability measurements
such as carbon footprinting, biodiversity, waste management and water conservation.

Origin Green provides a platform to communicate to the international buying community
that Ireland is a sustainable source of quality food and drink products.
